MEDIA ALERT FOR OCTOBER 9, 2009

Belmont Park Oral Cancer Screenings Feature High-Tech Identafi 3000 Ultra Device – Renowned "Airport Dentist" Dr. Robert Trager to Conduct Free Public Oral Scans at Racetrack on Friday, Oct. 9

    WHAT:

Oral cancer dental screenings will be conducted using Trimira® LLC's "multispectral" Identafi® detection device, which features the latest in high-speed, high-resolution optical processing technologies. Identafi® is a next-generation, portable handheld that incorporates advances in cancer detection from research scientists at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University, and British Columbia Cancer Research Centre. Early detection of oral cancer translates into cure rates of greater than 80 percent, which is why the American Cancer Society (ACS) and American Dental Association (ADA) recommend opportunistic screening for oral cancer. ADA estimates that while 60 percent of Americans visit a dentist every year, fewer than 15 percent of those who regularly visit a dentist receive an oral cancer screening.

    WHO:

Renowned "airport dentist" Dr. Robert Trager, who has offices at JFK and LaGuardia International Airports, has been organizing public oral cancer screenings for the past 25 years. Joining Dr. Trager will be volunteers from the Nassau County Dental Society, Suffolk County Dental Society, Queens County Dental Society. and the dental hygiene program at Farmingdale State University of New York's School of Health Sciences.

    WHEN:

12 NOON to 4 PM Friday, October 9.

    WHY:

Oral cancer kills someone every hour of every day. It is more deadly (in terms of five-year mortality rate) than cervical, breast, liver, kidney, thyroid, colon, or prostate cancers. Forty percent of those diagnosed with oral cancer will be dead in five years. Early detection through regular screenings would improve the survival rate to 80-90 percent.

    WHERE:

Belmont Park, 2150 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, N.Y. 11003.

    COST:

Free to patrons, screenings willl be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Screenings will be held in three areas of the Paddock Level.

    IDENTAFI:

Identafi® 3000 ultra is the newest, and most powerful and accurate device on the market for dentists and doctors to screen patients for signs of oral cancer. The device features patented optical reflectance and fluorescence technologies that are changing the diagnostic landscape for dentists and doctors. Identafi™ 3000 ultra uses white, violet, and green-amber wavelengths of light to excite oral tissue in distinct ways. It enables those on the front line of detection to catch early indicators and stages of oral cancer and pre-cancer that are often missed by the naked eye.

    TRIMIRA:

Trimira LLC is venture capital-funded by cancer research philanthropist T. Boone Pickens, of oil and windfarming fame. Trimira sister subsidiaries are developing screening and diagnostic devices for skin, cervical, gastrointestinal, and bladder cancers. Remicalm, the parent company, has licensed exclusive use of certain of its patents and patents pending for use as a cervical cancer product to be later expanded to include additional epithelial-based cancers. Remicalm's core technologies are based on high-speed, high-resolution capabilities from its patented optical processing technology platforms and include the ability to read metabolic and physiologic differences in diseased and healthy human tissue.
